Sixteen public libraries throughout the region and White Birch Books are pleased to announce that this year the featured book for 2023 will be The Bear by Andrew Krivak. Krivak will talk about the book and answer reader questions on Thursday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Majestic Theatre in Conway Village. This event will also be live-streamed.

Interested readers will have many options for finding copies of “The Bear” to read before the author event in November. Each participating library will have multiple copies beginning later this summer, and White Birch Books in North Conway will have plenty in stock.

Book group discussions will be held at most participating libraries and at White Birch Books in North Conway this coming fall. Participating libraries are Bartlett, Bridgton, Brownfield, Charlotte Hobbs Memorial in Lovell, Chocorua, Conway, Cook Memorial in Tamworth, Effingham, Freedom, Fryeburg, Jackson, Madison, Meredith, Moultonborough, Pope Memorial in North Conway, and Samuel H. Wentworth in Sandwich.

In addition to book discussions, programs related to the book’s themes of storytelling, myth, survival, and human-animal connections are planned for the fall.

This year, One Book One Valley shares the book The Bear with New Hampshire’s NEA Big Read. In addition, One Book One Valley readers will be welcome to participate in New Hampshire NEA Big Read programs which will be held across the state in September through November.
