Plans are coming together for a variety of programs to take place leading up to One Book One Valley’s signature event with the author, which will take place on Thursday, October 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Kennett High School. Here are some that have been scheduled, more to come!
- Gender 101: What is gender? Why does it matter? Alex Myers will explore the concept of gender identity, explain the differences between biological sex and gender, gender identity and gender expression, as well as gender and sexual orientation. At Madison Library on September 26 at 7:00 p.m.
- Ask a Transgender Person Anything: October 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the Jackson Public Library.
- No Cinderella Story: Friends Remember Ben Scott “Benderella” Rae: Historian Laura Hodgman will talk about Benderella Rae, a developmentally disabled transgender woman who was murdered in 1977. At Cook Memorial Library in Tamworth on October 23 at 7:00 p.m.
Author of Becoming Nicole, Amy Ellis Nutt, first introduced the Maines family’s story in an article in the Washington Post. Libraries will have multiple copies of the book to lend at the beginning of September. If you’d like to read the book over the summer, contact your library to ask if a copy is available, or stop in White Birch Books to purchase a copy.
