Our final event for 2015

composingJoin us on Wednesday, November 4 at 7 pm at Salyards Center for the Arts in Conway Village for “Composing a Further Life,” a talk by Mary Catherine Bateson.

As the culminating event in One Book, One Valley 2015, writer and cultural anthropologist Mary Catherine Bateson, daughter of Margaret Mead and Gregory Bateson, will discuss aging and wisdom as well as her parents and how their lives as public intellectuals influenced Bateson.

Bateson’s recent work has focused on the way social change affects the shape of lives and the task of life-long learning. Wisdom today is no longer characterized by withdrawal and passivity but with engagement with others and what Bateson calls “active wisdom.”
